A fan favourite in Lennox Head, local surf and skate shop Anchor Chief has now been upgraded. Anchor Chief is grungy and urban with a hint of coastal vibes, aligning perfectly with its location to showcase the best in surf and skate gear. Simple and raw materials were selected to give the store an authentic and sincere foundation for the brand to show off its wares.
The exterior features diagonal timber planks – a natural tallow wood species sourced from NSW. The same timber has also been integrated in the interior, coupled with black joints to create an aesthetic that conjures up boat making and nautical themes. Other materiality calls on skating aesthetics such as concrete render and particle board soaked in deep black paint.
For the ceiling, the industrial aesthetics continue with the exposed slab and services painted out black. To add drama and a slick look, custom designed LED rods extrude from the ceiling creating dynamism and angles, accented by bunker wall lights.
The finishing touches for the Anchor Chief store was a playful exploration of bold yellow triangles combined with the strong design of the branding throughout the space. The finished product is a store where the city meets the beach.
