As the demand for solar power grows so too does the team at Smart Energy. The Byron Bay team of Smart Energy was rapidly outgrowing its warehouse space and a new office space was quickly acquired. The owner’s had a clear vision of what they wanted their offices to feel like – open and light with lots of timber and even more greenery.

 

The upper level of the building houses the operations teams for the company, while downstairs is the more social side of the business with the call centre, training room, and staff and games area. With all the noise and excitement flowing from the ground floor, acoustic dampening was a vital part of making this office functional for everyone. In addition to insulation, the walls feature panels of fabric lined acoustic boards that double as a pin-board, while the ceiling has custom panels of stained ply with hessian lining installed throughout. 

 

Smart Energy has a company culture that is vibrant, energetic and playful. With this in mind, the skills of a local maker were commissioned to create feature pendants for the space. The maker recycled old ceramic insulators from telegraph poles, which have been transformed into stunning lamp holders as feature pendants.

 

The space was brought together with an overall palette of plywood panels accented with black shadow lines, concrete panels and plenty of indoor plants. With sustainability in mind, full sheets of ply were used as the main wall linings throughout the offices. This minimised wastage and removed the need for painting, while the offcuts then used for making furniture. The result is a space which truly embodies Smart Energy's ethos
