A hugely popular spot in bustling Byron Bay, Supernatural Restaurant and Bar might be petite but it is defined by the unexpected.

Working with the owner, whitewood developed a look and feel for the space, one that is overflowing with elegance and luxury, alongside quirky touches. The colour palette is vibrant but deep, including dark teal, and dark timbers, which are then softened by a gentle dusty pink French wash feature and brass detailing. The combination is indulgent and surprising – an ethos that carries throughout the entire restaurant, filtering through from the interior design to every touchpoint that makes the experience unique.

A stand-out feature of the space is the commissioned mural. Using the dusty pink backdrop, a golden ornate mural by Brian Connolly adorns one whole wall. Beautiful, artistic faces pop-out with the curving repetition creating something that is both bold, yet not too overpowering within the space.

To emphasise the intimacy, mood and ambience of this tiny space, the teal colour wraps the floor, and up the walls. Golden brass details and gentle lighting add sophistication, while the Thonet dining chairs express a classic charm.

Supernatural showcases just how successful a space can be when all the elements come together to create the perfect vibe and ambience – from the interior design, to the menu, music, staff and everything in-between. Working closely with the owner to first develop the conceptual elements for the interiors, a clear brand and direction followed, being informed by the material and colour palette. The outcome is a cohesive and holistic experience, one that goes beyond the interior design yet is so integral in creating a space that is enduring.
