Authentic, quirky touches create a space of joy.

With the kitchen as the undeniable centrepoint, the new space captures attention with splashes of colour, such as the teal-coloured features tiles that wrap around the benches and splashback. The tiling throughout the kitchen was executed with precision, allowing for an inset hob and a meticulous tile set-out.

Colour is infused elsewhere with unexpected flourishes, notably in the newly appointed dining nook, where the fuchsia fabric upholsters the built-in banquette seat. This space is complemented by the client’s own artwork, concrete table and antique brass pendant light.

These authentic, quirky touches create a space of joy, made even cosier through the thoughtful spatial planning and interior architecture resolutions we introduced. For instance, extending the kitchen out, while maintaining it within the existing roofline. The final design addresses this constraint with a step down, creating a versatile floating island that serves as an additional dining height bench on one side, and a kitchen bench on the other.

New, larger windows introduce a connection to the back garden, where future plans for a pool will allow for seamless entertaining.

Other special details include the matte black cabinet fronts (made from a sustainable product Paper Rock), which was inspired by the clients’ existing custom-made bookshelf.

Through close collaboration with the client, who values creativity and playfulness, whitewood has curated a space that not only meets functional needs but also reflects the homeowner’s artistic sensibilities and love for family and friend entertaining.
